SegicPro AI: an intelligent platform to transform the management of group insurance tendering processes

Segic is a Quebec-based technology company revolutionizing the management of group benefits programs. Its hybrid TPA/marketplace model empowers brokers, insurers and administrators by automating underwriting, enrolment and HR data analysis. Designed to optimize every stage of the business process, the Segic platform eliminates friction, secures information exchanges and accelerates decision-making.

As part of its innovation strategy, SEGIC wanted to enhance its SegicPro IA platform – an intelligent environment based on Microsoft Power Platform Copilot – with a tailor-made solution to automate, simplify and secure group insurance tendering processes.

To realize this vision, SEGIC called on Nexus Innovations to develop a customized application integrated with SegicPro IA. This solution, designed using Microsoft’s Power Platform, integrates artificial intelligence functionalities to automate the processing of insurance documents, centralize data and facilitate exchanges between brokers, customers and insurers. It responds to a real market need: to offer brokers a high-performance tool for efficiently managing quote requests, while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements such as Bill 25.

Business objectives

Prior to Nexus’ intervention, brokers had to manage the entire bidding process manually: gathering information to prepare a specification, sending the specification to various bidders, receiving, comparing and analyzing bids, and then presenting the results. This mode of operation meant a considerable loss of time, heavy reliance on personal tools (Excel, Outlook) and a high risk of errors or loss of information.

The main objectives of the project were therefore to :

  • Centralize data and communications on a single platform.
  • Secure the exchange of sensitive documents.
  • Automate the processing of insurers’ responses.
  • Reduce the time required to produce comparisons and customer presentations

Proposed solution

The solution developed is based on a Power Apps application connected to a Dataverse environment, enriched with automated workflows via Power Automate. It enables brokers to :

  • Create and track quotation files.
  • Exchange securely with customers and insurers.
  • Automate the sending of applications to selected insurers.
  • Automatically process incoming PDF files thanks to dedicated artificial intelligence for data extraction.
  • Generate structured comparison and analysis files to facilitate decision-making.

This low-code/no-code approach enables SEGIC to rapidly evolve the solution in line with market needs and user feedback.

Impact on the organization

The project has enabled SEGIC to launch a new product on the market, filling a technological gap in the group insurance sector. Although the first phase was delivered as an MVP (Minimum Viable Product), it has already attracted a great deal of interest from brokers.

Phase 2, currently underway, aims to enrich the solution with new automations and enhance the user experience.

Although quantitative results are not yet available, anticipated benefits include :

  • A significant reduction in file processing time.
  • Better traceability of exchanges.
  • Fewer human errors.
  • Increased ability to respond rapidly to customer requests.

Solution adoption

The solution has been designed for deployment at SEGIC’s customers, i.e. brokers. SEGIC acts as an intermediary between Nexus Innovations and the end-users. Training was provided to the SEGIC team to enable them to master the platform and distribute it to their customers. This multi-client deployment model was a first for Nexus, which adapted its methodology to meet this new reality.
