GoRecycle is a non-profit organization whose mission is to mobilize all players in Quebec to recover refrigerated and air-conditioned appliances responsibly. One of their actions is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by recycling cooling appliances responsibly. By ensuring the recovery and proper treatment of refrigerant gases contained in fridges, GoRecycle prevents them from being released into the atmosphere.

As part of the launch of its home collection service, the organization wanted to modernize its technological platform.

Nexus Innovations was commissioned to design a tailor-made digital solution, including a new web application for its carriers and the implementation of a citizen request management portal.

Business objectives

The main objective was to offer a new door-to-door cooling appliance collection service for citizens who don’t have vehicles to get to the eco-centers, and thus prevent them from abandoning their cooling appliances at the curb.

The launch of the new solution had to precede the July moving period, a key moment when demand explodes. A target of 3,000 units collected for the next season was set to measure the success of the project.

Proposed solution

The technological solution delivered by Nexus comprises three complementary components:

  • A mobile application for transporters, coded in C# and React, facilitating the management of routes and the processing of collections in the field.
  • An internal management interface, built on the Power Apps platform, to centralize requests and dispatch them efficiently to carriers.

Integration with GoRecycle’s public website, managed by another supplier, is via APIs developed by Nexus, ensuring seamless communication between systems.

Impact on the organization

The new solution has significantly improved collection logistics, while optimizing the user experience for both citizens and carriers. Thanks to this overhaul, GoRecycle is better equipped to meet its greenhouse gas reduction targets and to support sustained growth in its activities.

Solution adoption

GoRecycle put in place a structured roll-out plan, including extensive testing phases and the production of training materials for hauliers. Carriers welcomed the new application, praising its ease of use and the clear improvement over the previous canvas app version.

The progressive launch took place on June 9, 2025 for the Montreal region, to meet the periodic demands of this summer’s moves. To date, citizens have responded positively to the customer experience. A wider roll-out is then planned for 2026, in time for the next moving period.

The solution developed by Nexus Innovations was essential for the implementation of our new door-to-door collection service. Without it, the launch would have been extremely difficult. It offers citizens a simple and pleasant experience, enables GoRecycle to track and process requests efficiently, and provides hauliers with a powerful tool via the dedicated application, facilitating the coordination of collections.

Our warmest thanks go to Nexus Innovations and its entire team for their excellent work; collaboration was particularly fluid and efficient throughout the project.

Project team

This project also marked an important milestone for Nexus, bringing together two internal practices – Business Solutions and Software Engineering – around a common goal:

“This was one of the first major projects to unify our two practices. We had to learn to work with and adapt to the different realities of each.” Francis Joyal

The project team included :

  • Francis Joyal: Agile Project Manager
  • Daniel Paquette: Software developer
  • Guillaume Rocher: D365 Business Solutions Consultant
  • Alexandre Tardif: Software engineering tech lead
  • Mathieu Dubreuil: Software developer
  • Juan Cardenas-Medina: Software engineering designer
